Malmö Arab Film Festival (MAFF) announced the date of its 13th edition, which will take place in the Swedish city of Malmö from April 28th to May 4th, 2023. Which means that the number of festival days will be increased to seven full days.
The founder and head of the festival, Mouhamad Keblawi, spoke about the decision, saying: “After the notable success witnessed by the 2022 edition, and the repeated comments from the festival audience and guests about the packed screenings and activities program, it was logical to decide to increase the number of days starting from the next year, in line with the continuous expansion in the size of the festival. The number of his films, guests and activities”.
The 12th MAFF was held between May 4th and 9th, 2022, and witnessed the screening of more than 70 Arab films of various genres and nationalities, and the attendance of more than 200 guests from Arab and foreign filmmakers, journalists and experts, in addition to the continuation of the Malmö Industry Days, the festival’s professional arm, and the grant program supporting projects co-produced between Arab and Nordic countries.
Malmö Arab Film Festival is the largest and most famous Arab film festival in Europe and the only one in the Scandinavian countries. Since its founding in 2011, MAFF took major steps towards offering a panoramic view over the Arab social and political situation and conducting constructive dialogues for both professionals and the public. The festival’s goal is to build bridges between cultures based on film as a universal visual language, capable of imitating the diversity of human dimension.
