For the third consecutive day, the activities and screenings of the 14th edition of the Malmö Arab Film Festival continue, attracting a large audience from several Swedish cities. The first discussion sessions of the film industry days have begun, alongside the screenings of feature films participating in the official competition, with both Malmö and Gothenburg hosting Arab Nights screenings.
At Scandic Hotel, discussions commenced as part of the 10th edition program of the Malmö Film Industry Days, which started yesterday and saw participation from filmmakers and cinema enthusiasts. The opening discussion session titled “From Screen to Daily Life: Confronting Social Issues in Cinema” was moderated by director and writer Amal Al-Aqroubi. It featured the director of the film “Goodbye Julia,” Mohamed Kurdvani, the director of “God Willing, Son” Amjad Al-Rashid, and the director of “Western Sahara” Anna Clara Orin.
The second session, titled “The Impact of Screenwriters on Project Development and Their Interaction with Directors,” was moderated by producer Aya Dawara and featured director Khairy Beshara and writer Maryam Naoum.
Festival Screenings:
With a noticeable audience presence, festival screenings continued at Panora Cinema Halls 1 and 2. At Panora 1, the Saudi film “Night Courier” by director Ali Kalthami was screened at 6:00 PM. In Panora 2, the film “Four daughters” by Tunisian director Kaouther Ben Hania (Tunisia, France, Germany, Saudi Arabia) was showcased. Additionally, Panora 2 featured the film “Under sky of Damascus” directed by Heba Khaled, Talal Derki and Ali Wajeeh, produced in (Denmark, Germany, America, Syria), followed by a Q&A session with Heba Khaled director, Heba Khalid.
Arabic music set the ambiance at Panora Cinema as the first Arab Night began, followed by the screening of the Egyptian film “Fireworks,” directed by Amr Salama. A dialogue ensued between the audience and the film’s producer, Ahmed Fahmy. The second Arab Night took place in Gothenburg, featuring the screening of the film “Yesterday After Tomorrow,” produced in 2023 by Suadi director Abdulghani Alsaigh, who attended the event, engaging with the audience in an intriguing discussion afterward.
The “Arab Nights” screenings include four Saudi films, organized in collaboration with the Saudi Film Commission and Close Up North Company, with six screenings across various cities (Umeå, Helsingborg, Gothenburg, Stockholm, Malmö, and Copenhagen), coinciding with the events of the 2024 Malmö Arab Film Festival. The program aims to offer a unique cinematic experience to the audience.
Reminder for Day Four Events:
The fourth day of the festival kicks off with the screening of school films, starting with “Traveler Aleppo Istanbul.” The first package of short films will be screened, including “Antidote, Farewell, Let Us Play Yesterday, Somewhere In Between,” The second package of short films will also be screened, including “It’s a Small World, The Battle
, The Red Sea Makes Me Wanna Cry, Transit, Wishes For My Heart” Stockholm will host the screening of the film “Hajjan” as part of the Arab Nights, while Malmö will screen “Hwjn” and “Baghdad Messi” Meanwhile, the film industry days activities continue.
